Iodine Regulations
Iodine has been known to be used for the manufacturing of illegal drugs. In order to control its use, Congress passed stricter legislation that was effective on August 1, 2007
(see 21 CFR Parts 1309 and 1310)
. These laws allowed the continued use of iodine for microbiology use, but require all sellers to be registered with Drug Enforcement Agencies and all purchasers to disclose their identification information in order to acquire this highly regulated chemical.
