Urea/PDA Disks
Hardy's Rapid Urea/PDA Disks will help you to quickly rule out harmless non-lactose fermentors when screening stool specimens for Salmonella and Shigella.
This test is useful in differentiating Proteus, Providencia, and Morganella species from most other members of the Enterobacteriaceae. HardyDisk™ Urea/PDA Disks are used to determine an organism's ability to hydrolyze urea to ammonia, and to deaminate phenylalanine to phenylpyruvic acid.
This is a rapid two hour test that is useful in screening out lactose negative stool flora (on MacConkey, HE, XLD, or EMB) that is not pathogenic (Proteus, Providentia, Morganella) from true pathogens (Shigella or Salmonella). This rapid and inexpensive test prevents the waste of expensive Vitek cards and other ID systems.

Was John Adams a Prophet?
"All the perplexities, confusion and distress in America
arise, not from defects in their Constitution or Confederation, not from want
of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of
coin, credit and circulation."
