Phraseology
"You can't teach an old dog new tricks"
This is one of the oldest phrases in the English language, having its first recorded origin in a book on animal husbandry in 1523 that said "an old dog will learn no tricks."
How much truth is
in this old saying?
Neuroscientists at MIT and Massachusetts General Hospital found that we peak, intellecutally speaking, at different ages depending on the task at hand.
For example, raw speed in processing information appears to peak around age 18 or 19 and then immediately starts to decline. Meanwhile, short-term memory continues to improve until around age 25 when it levels off and then begins to drop around age 35.
For the ability to evaluate other people's emotional states, the peak occurred much later in the 40s or 50s.
While some IQ tests suggest that vocabulary peaks in the late 40s, new data showed a later peak, occurring in the late 60s or early 70s.
Maybe there's a lot to be said for old dogs after all.

Fecal bacteria on your toothbrush?
Researchers at the Quinnipiac University found that 60% of the toothbrushes tested contained fecal bacteria, when a bathroom is shared, such as in a dorm situation. There is an 80% chance that the bacteria came from someone other than the owner. The American Dental Association offers some advice on how to prevent toothbrush contamination.
Spoiled beer is common with microbreweries
Researchers at the University of Houston found that many bottles of beer from four out of ten microbreweries contained spoilage microorganisms in the brew. It was found that these small craft breweries do not perform quality control to detect contamination and thus were not aware of the problem.

are two types of media that can be utilized to detect such organisms of spoilage.
Cinnamon can neutralize viruses
Researchers at
New York School of Career and Applied Studies found that cinnamon was effective in blocking the infectious ability of viruses and may be useful in preventing colds and flu in humans.
Tests with onion, garlic, cloves, peppermint, cocoa, and saffron had no such effect on the virus they tested.
Bacteria sleeping on the job?
Researchers at Indiana University found that up to 90% of the bacteria on human skin is either dormant or dead. They hypothesized that this is due to either a lack of nutrients or moisture. Another theory is that the bacteria have developed a means to escape detection by the immune system.
Bacteria under contact lenses described
Researchers at the New York University School of Medicine found that the bacteria on the cornea is quite different with contact lens wearers. They are more likely to have bacteria commonly found on the fingers or eye lids.
Pseudomonas
was three times more likely to be found with contact lens wearers. This is a common cause of keratitis (infection of the cornea). Contact lens wearers are 80 times more likely to experience keratitis (example shown below).
