GBS Detect
The perfect companion to Carrot Broth
GBS Detect
H ardy is now offering a new plated media that can be used to sub the negative Carrot Broth cultures. Since only the hemolytic strains of Group B Strep will turn the Carrot Broth orange (the Granada reaction), it is advised that all negatives be subbed to a plate to check for non -hemolytic strains of GBS.
The new GBS Detect plate will cause non-hemolytic strains of GBS to appear hemolytic. This makes it very easy to detect these non-hemolytic GBS strains that reportedly make up 1 to 3% of all positives.
The Photo above shows  a non -hemolytic strain of Group B Strep growing on our GBS Detect plate, which enhances the latent hemolysins.

Mycological Humor
Mushroom
So Mr. Mushroom walks into the bar...
The bartender says "You will have to leave. We don't serve your kind here".
"What's the problem?" asks the bewildered Mushroom.
"We just don't serve mushrooms here." snaps the bartender.
The puzzled mushroom replys, "But why not? I'm a fun-guy!"
